What a Connecticut DMV dealer licence means
Under Connecticut General Statutes §14-52, no one may engage in the business of buying, selling or brokering motor vehicles without a new car dealer's or used car dealer's licence from the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, renewed every two years. Before offering a used vehicle for retail sale, a Connecticut dealer must complete a comprehensive safety inspection (CGS §14-62), and a dealer selling a used car with a cash price of $3,000 or more must include a written warranty of at least 30 days or 1,500 miles (under $5,000) or 60 days or 3,000 miles ($5,000 or more), except for vehicles seven or more model years old (CGS §42-221). The order and invoice must show any dealer conveyance or processing fee and state that it is not payable to the state. A licence is not a rating of a dealer or a car.
Licence details come from the state DMV's published file. Before you buy, confirm the number on your paperwork, read the Buyers Guide, and check which used car warranty the state requires for this car.
